Rucha Patil: Scaling POC Diagnostics for Haemophilia A and VWD Across India

Rucha Patil, Scientist at Department of Haemostasis and Thrombosis, ICMR- National Institute of Immunohaematology, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Two days of meaningful discussions, collaboration and a shared mission to strengthen haemophilia and haemoglobinopathies care in India.

15-16 October 2026 | Delhi

Landed in Delhi to pleasant weather and headed straight to the HFI office, where it was a pleasure meeting Habib Bennaceur, NNHF Council President, and Alec van Gelder, Vice President, Corporate Affairs, Novo Nordisk Haemophilia & Haemoglobinopathies Foundation.

We had insightful discussions on haemophilia treatment and diagnostics in India. I was particularly happy to share excellent progress made in the pilot implementation of ICMR-developed point-of-care (POC) kits for haemophilia A and von Willebrand disease (VWD) in two states, with the valuable support of NNHF.

The informal dinner discussions were equally important, highlighting both India’s strengths and the gaps that remain in haemophilia and haemoglobinopathies care for which we remain determined to address them through collaboration, innovation and focused action.

Day 2 was dedicated to a mission-mode meeting organised by Shikha Jha, along with Shobha Tuli ma’am, Dr Heena Tabassum, Anupam Dutta, Dr. Lakhan Poshniwal, Premroop Alva, Dr. Suman Jain
Dr. J S Arora, Sh. Gautam Dongre. The meeting focused on reviewing progress, identifying priorities and charting the way forward.

Always a pleasure to be part of fruitful discussions that translate shared vision into meaningful action. The goal remains clear: bridging gaps and ensuring better access to diagnosis and treatment for people living with bleeding disorders across India.”
