Alfredo Lozada: Pelacarsen Lowers Lp(a), But Does It Lower CV Risk?
Alfredo Lozada, Founder of Clinica del Colesterol at Cholesterol Clinic, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Futility of Pelacarsen in the Lipoprotein(a) HORIZON !!
8,323 people with Lpa and CV disease. Designed to prove a reduction CV events .
Pelacarsen lowered Lp(a), but the study did not reduce CV Events.
- Important information, has not been presented. For patients, the message is clear: this announcement does not change the genetics & management of Lp(a). For clinicians, keep driving LDL-C to target, blood pressure, and managing risk factors.
- Maybe patients need to start reducing Lpa much earlier to get benefit. The Diminishing Returns graph & theory attached, shows that earlier Tx is needed !! As with inflammation you need to fight the fire, not the ashes !!
We wait the data release from other ongoing outcome trials to understand the next steps in CV prevention. What will you do at home?”
