Anita Brikman: Increasing Awareness of The Ongoing Need for Plasma Donors Is Vital to Ensuring Patient Access and Continuity of Care
Anita Brikman, President and CEO of the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association (PPTA), shared on LinkedIn:
”During IPAW 2025, I participated in a series of virtual media interviews with television and radio stations around the country to help raise awareness about the essential role of plasma donation and plasma-derived medicines.
I was grateful to be joined by Jana Mattheu, the loving mom of a primary immunodeficiency patient, and by Dr. Michael Keller, a pediatric immunologist at Children’s National Hospital.
Together, we shared how plasma donation plays a critical role in the development of these lifesaving medicines and the science behind these unique therapies.
As Jana shared her family’s emotional and moving story, it was clear to viewers that plasma-derived medicines are not just treatments, they are lifelines.
Her son’s story defines Plasma Powers Possibility – with the help of his IgG infusions, he’s been able to thrive in both school and work.
Increasing awareness of the ongoing need for plasma donors is vital to ensuring patient access and continuity of care.
And we do that by answering questions we often get, many of which we received from members of the media throughout the day:
- How is plasma donation different than blood donation?
- Who does plasma donation help?
- How does someone get started donating?
This is why International Plasma Awareness Week is so important and why awareness, advocacy, and action are carried out year-round by the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association (PPTA) and its members.
We are also grateful for the continued collaboration of dedicated clinicians, caregivers, and advocates who share this commitment.
Visit to learn more and get involved.”
