Carly Newton: Understanding Access to Red Blood Cell Exchange for People Living With SCD
Carly Newton, Sr Manager of Apheresis Clinical Marketing at Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Proud to see research from Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies highlighted in The Guardian. We surveyed U.S. healthcare providers to better understand access to red blood cell exchange (RBCX) for people living with sickle cell disease.
One finding stands out: 91% of providers surveyed report having access to RBCX, yet fewer than 3% of U.S. patients receive it in a given year.
Access on paper isn’t the same as patients getting care. Closing that gap means connecting people with specialized care teams and the resources they need to manage this disease long term.
We’re committed to research that goes beyond our devices to understand the real barriers patients face. More to come, and looking forward to continuing the conversation at AABB 2026 this week and ASH 2026 in December.”
