Emma Stevens: Lighting Up Buildings in Red and Blue for World Thrombosis Day

Emma Stevens, Chair and Founder of Bamber Bridge Women’s Shed, Member and Women’s Officer at Unite the Union, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“This year, I have worked closely with Thrombosis UK on their campaign to get buildings and other places lit up in red and blue for World Thrombosis Day – 13th October.

To our great delight (and a huge thanks to Preston City Council, Fylde Council and Worthing Borough Council), I was able to get Preston Flag Market, the Lytham St. Anne’s Windmill, and the Worthing Borough Council building to display the colours of Thrombosis UK.

My father died of Thrombosis, and, as he was born in Worthing, enjoyed many happy memories in Lytham St. Anne’s and passed away in Preston – this tribute has also made me proud on a more personal note too.

  • Thrombosis UK’s priority is for everyone to know the risks, signs and symptoms of venous thromboembolism (VTE), including deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE) and to support research to extend understanding into the prevention and best management of blood clots.
  • Thrombosis UK works to increase awareness, support and research to extend understanding. We provide free, accredited education and access to medically approved information to improve care for all those affected by thrombosis.
  • Thrombosis UK exists to give everyone the knowledge to spot the signs, understand the risks, and get the support they need — because awareness saves lives.”
