Frank Dartey Amankonah: The Hidden Danger of Pulmonary Embolism

Frank Dartey Amankonah, Emergency Medicine Resident at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“I came across this post and I am worried. I cannot confirm or refute its authenticity and do not know the cause of death if its factual… but want to take this opportunity to talk about Pulmonary Embolism: The ‘silent’ Blood Clot that Can Kill.

You may have heard stories of someone who was perfectly well, travelled a long distance, and then suddenly became very sick. Lot of times we blame efiefoɔ and ‘innocent witches’ who are envious of our progress…..

Well… One possible cause is Pulmonary Embolism!

Think of it this way: A blood clot forms in a deep vein, usually in the leg. Part of the clot breaks away and travels through the bloodstream. It reaches the lungs and blocks a blood vessel.

That blockage is what is called a Pulmonary Embolism (PE).

A large PE can become life-threatening very quickly.
