Heghine Khachatryan: Efgartigimod Shows Promising Results in iTTP

Heghine Khachatryan, Editor-in-Chief of Hemostasis Today, Head of Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center at Yeolyan Hematology and Oncology Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“One of the most anticipated sessions at ISTH 2026 focused on the evolving treatment landscape of immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), highlighting the Phase III ADVANCE IV program evaluating intravenous efgartigimod, an FcRn antagonist that selectively reduces pathogenic IgG autoantibodies while preserving broader immune function.

The updated results demonstrated that efgartigimod achieved rapid and clinically meaningful platelet recovery, with responses observed as early as the first week of treatment and significantly higher rates of sustained platelet responses compared with placebo. By Day 42, a substantially greater proportion of patients achieved both platelet counts ≥100×10⁹/L and International Working Group (IWG) responses, supporting a fast onset of action and durable clinical benefit.

Equally important, the safety profile remained favorable. Treatment was generally well tolerated, with most adverse events classified as mild to moderate, reinforcing the therapeutic potential of FcRn inhibition for patients with persistent and chronic ITP.

These data represent another important step toward precision immunotherapy in ITP, shifting management beyond symptomatic platelet support to targeted modulation of the autoimmune mechanisms responsible for platelet destruction.

Such advances continue to redefine expectations for efficacy, durability, and quality of life in patients living with chronic immune thrombocytopenia.”
