Marco Moscarelli: When CT Reveals Thrombosis After TAVI

Marco Moscarelli, Cardiac Surgeon at GVM Care and Research, shared a post on LinkedIn:

”Leaflet and perivalvular thrombosis after TAVI can be indeed reversible (or perhaps preventable!) with proper anticoagulation.

We followed a relatively young patient with type 0 bicuspid aortic stenosis who underwent TAVI.

Completely asymptomatic.

Very poor echocardiographic window.

As part of the EndoTAVI project, MDCT was performed during follow-up to assess early prosthetic valve changes.

Unexpectedly, CT showed a giant sinus thrombus together with HALT involving one leaflet.

The patient was treated with warfarin, with INR maintained within target, and underwent repeat MDCT after 6 months.

Almost complete resolution of the sinus thrombus. Complete resolution of leaflet thrombosis.

Again, MDCT matters after TAVI.”
