“Global Leadership in Thrombosis and Hemostasis: A New Chapter Ahead
The International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) has announced the election of Mary Cushman, as International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) President for the 2028–2030 term.
Mary Cushman will serve as President-Elect from 2026–2028, working alongside incoming ISTH President Wolfram Ruf, before assuming the presidency at the conclusion of the 2028 ISTH Congress.
Her credentials are exceptional:
- Director, Thrombosis and Hemostasis Program, University of Vermont
- Board Director, Cardiovascular Research Institute
- Co-Director, Vermont Center for Cardiovascular and Brain Health (NIH-funded COBRE)
- 800+ peer-reviewed publications
- 25 guidelines or Society statements
- Mentor to more than 30 research trainees
- Inaugural Editor-in-Chief of Research and Practice in Thrombosis and Haemostasis (RPTH Journal)
This position shapes global research priorities in thrombosis and hemostasis, education, and collaboration in a field central to cardiovascular and thrombotic disease worldwide.
On a personal note, I have known Mary for many years and am fortunate to count her as a friend. She combines intellectual rigour with generosity, strategic clarity with humility, and a deep commitment to mentorship. Those qualities will serve the Society — and our global community — extremely well.
This is outstanding news for International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) and for the field.
Congratulations, Mary.
Like, share, and join the conversation.”
