Rishabh Jain: Could Rusfertide Transform Polycythemia Vera Management?
Rishabh Jain, Medical Oncologist at AIIMS Delhi, shared a post on X:
“VERIFY Phase III | JCO 2026
Could rusfertide transform polycythemia vera management?
293 patients | Rusfertide vs placebo and SOC
- Clinical response: 77% vs 33% (P<0.0001)
- Phlebotomy-free: 73% vs 22%
- Sustained Hct <45%: 63% vs 14%
Fatigue and symptom scores improved.
Injection-site reactions and anemia; thrombosis reduction remains unproven.
Verdict: First-in-class hepcidin mimetic delivers a major advance in hematocrit control and phlebotomy reduction.
Longer-term clinical outcomes are needed.”
