When French Research Sheds Light on the Vital Mechanisms of Coagulation – Cécile Denis Awarded the 2025 Jean-Paul Binet Prize
Stanislas Conseiller, Philanthropy and Fundraising Development Officer at the Paris-Saclay School of Medicine, shared on LinkedIn:
“When French research sheds light on the vital mechanisms of coagulation and paves the way for new therapies!
Congratulations to Cécile Denis on receiving the 2025 Jean-Paul Binet Prize
Awarded by the French Medical Research Foundation, it is a well-deserved distinction for his work at the head of the Haemostasis, Inflammation, Thrombosis Unit.
Understanding coagulation to transform the management of vascular diseases.
His team deciphers the essential mechanisms of the coagulation cascade, in particular the role of von Willebrand factor (VWF). Their work has highlighted still little-known interactions between these blood components and the vascular wall, revealing:
– the central role of the VWF in pathologies such as strokes, where thrombosis and inflammation are intimately linked,
– the unexpected involvement of VWF in the survival of cancer cells.
These fundamental advances pave the way for new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for complex vascular or hemorrhagic diseases, which have long been difficult to treat.
I had already had the opportunity to mention one of the innovations that came out of this group: the development of a nanobody capable of stabilizing VWF and correcting coagulation in patients with von Willebrand disease, a real glimmer of hope for improving their care.
This Prize illustrates not only the scientific excellence of Cécile Denis and her team, but also the crucial importance of supporting fundamental research in hemostasis, the basis for innovative treatments for tomorrow.
Congratulations to the whole team!”
