Wiebke Plenkers on The Future of Stroke Care
Wiebke Plenkers, Product Line Head ‘ON THE SPOT’ for mobile CT business globally at Siemens Healthineers, shared on LinkedIn:
”Yesterday, I had the honor of speaking with Federal Health Minister Nina Warken about the future of stroke care.
Stroke is the second leading cause of death worldwide.
In Germany alone, around 270,000 people suffer a stroke every year.
For fast treatment every minute counts as nearly two million brain cells die each minute.
We discussed solutions that save lives – from rapid imaging, AI-powered image analysis to timely therapy.
I am particularly proud of presenting our SOMATOM On.site, a compact CT system that can be deployed directly in an ambulance, called Mobile Stroke Unit.
In combination with telemedicine, this innovation brings diagnostics to the patient and can significantly reduce the time to treatment.
In hospitals, SOMATOM On.site also offers a crucial advantage: for patients who have had head surgery, it can be brought directly to the patient’s bedside in the neuro-intensive care unit.
This eliminates risky transports to the radiology department and helps avoid potential complications.
With intelligent workflow automation, the CT system was designed so that in future even trained paramedics or nurses could operate it, helping hospitals manage staff shortages.
However, to realize the full potential of such innovations, we require changes in regulations and accelerate adoption.
For us, innovation means gaining time and saving lives.
Thank you for the inspiring exchange, Minister Warken!”
