Mark Johnson: Elevating Patient and Warrior Voices During Sickle Cell Awareness Month
Mark Johnson, Sr. Medical Science Liaison at Agios Pharmaceuticals, shared Agios Pharmaceuticals‘ post on LinkedIn:
“Throughout Sickle Cell Awareness Month, we’ve shared stories about the unseen realities of living with sickle cell disease – from the silent physical damage of hemolysis to the emotional weight of isolation.
As we wrap up the month, Sophia, Cassandra, and Clifton’s story of connection reminds us why patient and warrior voices must always guide our work.
I’m proud to be part of a team that elevates these important stories and the warriors behind them.”
Agios Pharmaceuticals shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Living with Sickle Cell Disease can feel isolating – an emotional and often unseen reality.
For Sophia, suffering a stroke at just 13 years old led her to withdraw from the very community that understood her journey. But a chance to reconnect changed everything.
In this latest story, we see the profound power of connection. Reuniting with fellow Sickle Cell Warriors and meeting new members of the community through events as a young adult allowed Sophia to find a space where she felt truly seen as a person, not just a patient.
As we reach the end of Sickle Cell Awareness Month, we want to express our gratitude to every warrior, caregiver, and advocate who has shared stories with us. While September is ending, our commitment to elevating your voices, highlighting the unseen realities of living with sickle cell disease, and standing by the sickle cell community continues every single day.”
