What Did EPCAT III Find? – Thrombosis Canada

Thrombosis Canada shared a post on LinkedIn:

”What did EPCAT III find?

In more than 5300 patients undergoing total hip or knee arthroplasty, symptomatic proximal DVT or pulmonary embolism occurred in:

  • 0.48 percent of patients receiving aspirin alone
  • 0.45 of patients receiving rivaroxaban for 5 days followed by aspirin

Aspirin alone met the trial’s prespecified criterion for noninferiority.

The findings provide important new evidence supporting aspirin alone as a thromboprophylaxis option after hip or knee arthroplasty in appropriately selected patients.

Patient selection remains important. Most participants in EPCAT III were classified as standard VTE risk, and patients with previous VTE or metastatic cancer were excluded.

In the latest CLOT Conversations, lead author Dr. Sudeep Shivakumar discusses the results with Dr.Jameel Abdulrehman and what they may mean for clinical practice.

Listen to the full episode.”
