Benjamin YQ Tan on Impacts of Early Cognitive and Psychological Statuses Post-Stroke

Benjamin YQ Tan, Stroke Neurologist and Brain Health Researcher at National University Hospital, shared on LinkedIn:

”Grateful to start the year by sharing our latest paper, now accepted in the Journal of the Neurological Sciences:

Early cognitive screening after ischemic stroke matters.

In working-age stroke survivors, we found that MoCA scores assessed within 24–72 hours of admission were independently associated with return to work at 3 months, even after accounting for stroke severity.

For many patients, cognition—not motor deficits—is the hidden barrier to getting back to work and life.

Identifying this early creates a real opportunity to intervene better and sooner.

Thankful to a dedicated multidisciplinary team for this collaboration.
