Christoph B. Olivier: What If We Reduce Cardiovascular Collapse in PE by 60% Without Increasing Bleeding?
Christoph B. Olivier, Head of the Clinical Trials Unit, UHZ Freiburg, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article by Kenneth Rosenfield et al, published in NEJM:
”HI-PEITHO Results in the NEJM Group
What if we could reduce the risk of cardiovascular collapse in pulmonary embolism patients by more than 60% without increasing major bleeding?
Publication of the HI-PEITHO trial led by Stavros V. Konstantinides and Kenneth Rosenfield in NEJM.
Key Findings: In 544 patients with intermediate-risk PE, ultrasound-facilitated, catheter-directed fibrinolysis significantly outperformed anticoagulation alone.
60% Risk Reduction: We saw a major drop in life-threatening complications and death (down to 4.0% from 10.3%).
Safety: No significant increase in major bleeding or intracranial hemorrhage.
This study, funded by Boston Scientific, proves that a precision-driven, catheter-based approach can prevent cardiorespiratory decompensation.”
