Gianpiero Gravante: Comparative Evaluation of Surgical Strategies for Grade III Hemorrhoidal Disease
Gianpiero Gravante, Member of the Board of Advisors HEMM AI, Guidelines and Multidisciplinary Management Committee Member at SICCR, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in Techniques in Coloproctology, adding:
“New PUB!
Pleased to share our latest publication in Techniques in Coloproctology.
In this large retrospective cohort study (n = 686), we compared different surgical strategies for grade III hemorrhoidal disease, including Milligan–Morgan hemorrhoidectomy, mucopexy, and hybrid approaches.
- Our findings highlight a clear trade-off: Mucopexy (and hybrid techniques) showed lower postoperative pain and better early patient-reported outcomes
- Milligan–Morgan provided superior long-term results, with significantly lower recurrence rates
These data reinforce the need to move beyond a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach.
A tailored, patient- and pile-specific strategy may better balance short-term morbidity with long-term efficacy in grade III hemorrhoids.
Grateful to all co-authors and collaborators involved in this work.”
