Harshi Peiris: 2026 Cholesterol Guidelines Bring Earlier and More Precise Risk Assessment
Harshi Peiris, Science Writer and Communicator, shared JAMA‘s post on X:
“Big update in heart health:
The 2026 cholesterol guidelines just got a major overhaul – and it changes when doctors start checking your risk.
Dyslipidemia is when your blood fats (cholesterol, triglycerides) are out of healthy range, quietly raising your risk of heart attack and stroke.
New guidelines say: catch it earlier, test smarter, treat more precisely.
Have you had your cholesterol checked in the last year?”
JAMA shared a post on X about a recent article by Anum Saeed et al., adding:
“JAMA Clinical Guidelines Synopsis:
The 2026 Dyslipidemia guideline recommends lifetime measurement of Lp(a) in all adults and earlier ASCVD risk assessment with the PREVENT calculator starting at age 30.”
