Predicting DVT and PE After Superficial Venous Thrombosis – JTH
Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (JTH) shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Florien S. van Royen et al., adding:
“Predicting deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism in community patients with superficial venous thrombosis: a model development study
Superficial venous thrombosis is usually treated as benign, but among 293,166 UK community patients, 3.5% developed DVT or PE within 90 days, and most of those came in the first week.
A simple model using prior DVT/PE, sex, cancer history, age, and varicose vein status discriminated modestly (c-statistic 0.66) with good calibration, flagging a higher-risk subgroup for further testing or preventive anticoagulation.”
