Luisa Weiss: Understanding the Molecular Differences Between Acute and Chronic Coronary Syndromes
Luisa Weiss, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in Cells, adding:
“Excited to share our latest publication!
This paper is especially meaningful to me as it marks my first last-author publication; a milestone made possible through an outstanding international collaboration between our teams in UCD and University Hospital Tubingen.
In this study, we combined platelet lipidomics, network biology, and machine learning to better understand the molecular differences between acute and chronic coronary syndromes.
Among our key findings:
- We identified distinct platelet lipid signatures that differentiate acute from chronic coronary syndrome, highlighting the dynamic role of platelet lipid remodeling in cardiovascular disease.
- Network analysis revealed coordinated lipid interactions associated with thrombo-inflammatory processes, providing new biological insights beyond individual lipid species.
- By integrating machine-learning approaches, we evaluated the predictive value of platelet lipid profiles and identified lipid features with the greatest potential for future biomarker development.
