Mary Cushman: What Causes PE to Happen in People with DVT?
Mary Cushman, University Distinguished Professor and Vice Chair at the University of Vermont, shared a post on LinkedIn, about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, adding:
“This was a fun paper to help out with!
What causes PE to happen in people with DVT?
We used genomics and transcriptomics to identify factors related to this.
F5 rs6025 – factor V Leiden was associated with lower risk.
We already knew this.
FVL may lead to more stable clots.
Common variants in the FGG and the F11 genes associated with VTE related to increased risk.
Maybe because of bigger thrombi or weaker or less stable thrombi.
SLC12A2-DT associated with lower risk.
Maybe through red cell mechanism
CDHR4 transcripts associated with increased risk. Might relate to cell-cell adhesion mechanism.
The overall effect of these associations was modest but could these biologies be prevention targets?”
