Matthew Smeds: Management of Thoracic Endograft Thrombosis and Mesenteric Embolization
Matthew Smeds, Professor of Vascular Surgery at Saint Louis University Vascular Surgery, shared a post on X:
”How should we manage thoracic endograft thrombosis when it occurs?
There’s little evidence and strategies range from anticoagulation to relining, bypass, or explantation.
In this case, recurrent thrombus plus mesenteric embolization was treated with redo TEVAR plus SMA thrombectomy.”
JVS-Cases Innovations and Techniques shared a post on X about a recent article by Yaima C. Valdes et al, published in Journal of Vascular Surgery: Cases and Innovative Techniques, adding:
”5 years after TEVAR, the thrombus came back.
This case of late thoracic endograft thrombosis with mesenteric embolization, without endoleak, migration, or identified hypercoagulability, raises questions about long-term surveillance.”
