Narat Srivali: New Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis on Glucocorticoid Therapy and The Risk of VTE
Narat Srivali, Assistant Professor at Duke University Medical Center, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article he and Federica De Giacomi co-authored, published in Expert Opinion on Pharmacotherapy, adding:
”Excited to share our new systematic review and meta-analysis on glucocorticoid therapy and the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE).
We found that glucocorticoid use is associated with an approximately 2.6-fold increased risk of VTE, with the highest risk seen early in treatment, at higher doses, and with systemic formulations.
These findings may help clinicians think more carefully about VTE risk stratification when initiating glucocorticoids, especially in patients with additional risk factors.”
