Octavio Marques Pontes-Neto: A Landmark Step in Stroke Prevention from The TRIDENT Trial Findings
Octavio Marques Pontes-Neto, Professor at Ribeirão Preto School of Medicine, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in The New England Journal of Medicine, adding:
“Honored to be part of the publication of the TRIDENT trial in the New England Journal of Medicine.
This landmark study showed that, among survivors of intracerebral hemorrhage, a single pill combining three low-dose antihypertensive agents reduced recurrent stroke and major cardiovascular events, reinforcing the central importance of sustained blood-pressure control after ICH.
Deeply proud of the participation of Brazilian investigators, including colleagues from multiple centers in the country: Sheila Cristina Ouriques Martins, Ana Cláudia de Souza, Rodrigo Bazan, Viviane Zetola and Carla Moro.
It is equally important to recognize that funding from the Brazilian Ministry of Health (Proadi Sus) was essential for the conclusion of this study, alongside Australian support.
This is a powerful example of how strategic public investment in clinical research can help generate evidence with global impact and direct relevance for patient care.
My sincere congratulations to Professor Craig Anderson for his outstanding leadership in bringing this important trial to completion and publication, and to Professor Sheila Cristina Ouriques Martins for her remarkable leadership and for helping ensure strong Brazilian engagement in a study of such global significance.
This is the kind of science that changes practice: rigorous, collaborative, international, and focused on improving outcomes in one of the most devastating forms of stroke.
Proud and grateful to have contributed to this effort.”
