Olivier Christophe: Colocalization of Factor X with Amyloid Light-Chain Deposits
Olivier Christophe, Director of Research at Inserm, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in Haematologica, adding:
“I’m pleased to share our new publication in Haematologica:
‘Factor X colocalizes with amyloid light chain deposits in AL amyloidosis: evidence from three patients’
In this study, we provide immunofluorescence evidence showing colocalization of factor X with amyloid light-chain deposits in tissues from patients with AL amyloidosis, supporting the concept of direct FX sequestration by amyloid deposits.
Importantly, FX deposition was observed even in one patient with normal circulating FX activity, raising interesting questions about the potential role of FX as a biomarker of residual amyloid burden and organ recovery.
We hope this work will encourage clinicians to systematically monitor FX levels in patients with AL amyloidosis.
Indeed, FX monitoring during treatment may provide complementary prognostic information, help assess bleeding risk — particularly before invasive procedures — and better reflect the persistence of residual amyloid deposits beyond hematologic remission.
This work formed an important part of the thesis of Sénadé Atsou and is dedicated to the memory of Frank Bridoux, whose vision and commitment to amyloidosis research made this work possible.
Many thanks to all co-authors from HITh lab Inserm and collaborators from CHU de Poitiers who contributed to this multidisciplinary effort.”
