Real-World Use of Protein C Concentrate in Protein C Deficiency
Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (JTH) shared on LinkedIn:
”Real-world use of protein C concentrate for the treatment of patients with protein C deficiency: an international registry By Marilyn Manco-Johnson, Paul Brons, Paul Knoebl, Michael Wang, Csaba Siffel, MD, PhD, Peter Turecek, and Hanna Gazda
- Context: Protein C deficiency, congenital or acquired, predisposes to severe, recurrent thrombosis. Evidence for protein C concentrate use beyond case reports has been scarce.
- Study: A prospective international registry (26 sites; Europe + USA) captured 43 patients treated between 2010–2015, documenting 306 courses of therapy for acute events, replacement, or long-term prophylaxis.
- Findings: 76% of congenital cases were on long-term prophylaxis. Adverse events were infrequent; only one patienthad possibly related serious AEs. Real-world data affirm the safety and versatility of protein C concentrate across diverse indications.”
