Shirley D’Sa: What Comes After BTK Inhibitors in Waldenström Macroglobulinaemia?

Shirley D’Sa, Professor of Haematology at United KingdomUnited Kingdom, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in Hematology Reports, adding:

”Treatment options following BTK inhibitor failure in Waldenström macroglobulinaemia (WM) remain an important unmet need in our field.

Our recently published article explores the role of bortezomib-based therapy in patients who have progressed following BTKi treatment, providing valuable real-world evidence in an area where prospective data remain limited.

As the therapeutic landscape of WM continues to evolve—with non-covalent BTK inhibitors, BTK degraders, BCL2 inhibitors, bispecific antibodies and cellular therapies all under investigation—it is important not to overlook the potential utility of established agents such as proteasome inhibitors.

The paper contributes to the growing discussion around treatment sequencing in WM and the question many of us increasingly face in clinical practice: what comes after BTKi?

An interesting read for anyone involved in the care of patients with WM and related IgM disorders.”
