Sonia Elena Popovici: Redefining Hemorrhagic Shock Through Cellular and Molecular Insights
Sonia Elena Popovici, Specialist in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at Timișoara Municipal Emergency Clinical Hospital, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in Biomedicines, adding:
”Pleased to share that our narrative review is now published in Biomedicines (MDPI, Q1):
‘Cellular and Molecular Mechanisms of Hemorrhagic Shock: Biological Rationale for Individualized Fluid Resuscitation Strategies and Multimodal Monitoring’
Biomedicines 2026, 14(8), 1678 — open access.
Hemorrhagic shock is still too often managed as a volume problem. In this review we bring the discussion back to what actually happens at the cellular and molecular level — endothelial and glycocalyx injury, the coagulopathy of trauma, the metabolic shift, and the individual genetic variability that shapes how a given patient responds.
From that biology, we argue for a time-based, individualized approach to resuscitation and for multimodal monitoring rather than a one-size-fits-all protocol.
