Thrombus NETs Predict Long-Term Ischemic Stroke Recurrence – JTH

Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (JTH) shared on LinkedIn about a recent article by Hyungwoo Lee et al, adding:

”Association between thrombus neutrophil extracellular traps content and ischemic stroke recurrence

Stroke clots rich in neutrophil extracellular traps came from patients more likely to have another ischemic stroke.

Among thrombi retrieved during thrombectomy, a higher NETs burden tracked with greater long-term recurrence risk.

The finding suggests clot-level NETs content marks an underlying thromboinflammatory phenotype that ordinary risk factors may miss.”
