Ilenia Calcaterra: HEMOPLATE Explores Biological Factors Behind Bleeding Variability in Haemophilia A
Ilenia Calcaterra, Consultant Physician in Internal Medicine and Assistant Professor at the University of Naples Federico II, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Very happy to have presented the HEMOPLATE study today, together with Prof. Marina Camera, at the XXV Annual Meeting of the Italian Platelet Study Group in Soave.
Our work explores a fascinating and still incompletely understood aspect of haemostasis in haemophilia A: the contribution of platelets to thrombin generation, with a particular focus on the platelet Tissue Factor–TFPI axis.
HEMOPLATE stems from the integration of clinical and translational research, with the aim of looking beyond FVIII levels and investigating platelet-dependent mechanisms that may contribute to the remarkable heterogeneity of the bleeding phenotype in haemophilia A.
Presenting these findings to a community specifically dedicated to platelet biology was particularly meaningful and sharing the presentation with Prof. Camera, with whom this scientific project has been developed, made it even more special.
Many thanks to all the colleagues involved in the study and to the Italian Platelet Study Group for the stimulating discussion and interest in our work.
Platelets may be more than supporting actors in haemophilia haemostasis — they may provide an important piece of the puzzle in understanding its biological complexity.”
