Yiliang Chen: PIM1 Identified as a Driver of Macrophage Foam Cell Formation in Atherosclerosis
Yiliang Chen, Assistant Professor at Medical College of Wisconsin, Assistant Investigator at Versiti Blood Research Institute, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology, adding:
“I’m delighted to share that our latest research has been published in Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology (ATVB): Macrophage PIM1 Drives Atherosclerosis by Enhancing Foam Cell Formation Via CD36.
In this study, we demonstrate that PIM1 kinase promotes macrophage foam cell formation by enhancing CD36-dependent oxidized LDL uptake, uncovering a new mechanism by which PIM1 contributes to the development of atherosclerosis.
These findings identify PIM1 as an important regulator of macrophage lipid metabolism and provide new insight into the molecular pathways that drive cardiovascular disease.
This project represents years of dedicated work by an outstanding team of students, postdoctoral fellows, collaborators, and mentors.
I’m deeply grateful for everyone’s perseverance, creativity, and commitment throughout this journey.
Congratulations and thank you to all of my co-authors Mirza Ahmar Beg, QUOC QUANG LUU, Silverstein Roy and collaborators Gang Xin.
I look forward to seeing where this work leads next.”
