Zeeshan Ali Baig: AI-Designed Peptide for Rare Bleeding Disorder
Zeeshan Ali Baig, House Officer at Federal Government Polyclinic (PGMI) Islamabad, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Juan Pablo Frontroth, published in Blood Advances, adding:
“AI-designed peptide for rare bleeding disorder
AI just designed a peptide from scratch to solve a diagnostic nightmare.
Platelet-type von Willebrand disease (PT-VWD) is a rare bleeding disorder that’s frequently misdiagnosed as a similar condition.
The treatments are completely different, so misdiagnosis can make things worse.
Researchers used an algorithm to screen over 10,000 randomly generated peptides and found one (G14) that specifically targets the mutated protein causing PT-VWD.
It blocks the abnormal platelet clumping in patient samples.
This isn’t just a potential therapy.
It’s a precision diagnostic tool built by AI.”
