Glenn Pierce: WHO Issues a Biannual Essential Medicines List
Glenn Pierce,Vice President Medical of WFH and member of the WFH USA Board of Directors and NHF U.S. Medical and Scientific Advisory Council, shared on Linkedin:
”The World Health Organization issues a biannual Essential Medicines List that countries use to guide their own essential medicines lists.
In 2023, they made a mistake in placing unsafe and ineffective products on the list over our (World Federation of Hemophilia) objections.
We mobilized and developed a global collective of relentless and aggressive advocacy, and submitted revisions to bring the WHO-EML into the 21st century.
Remarkably, it worked and they accepted all of our proposals for state of the art treatment for people with hemophilia.
This new WHO-EML is now an effective advocacy tool to lobby governments worldwide to provide more effective treatments to patients.”
