Hajer Ali Sinan on Predicting Mortality Using Machine Learning and Fibrin Biomarkers
Hajer Ali Sinan, Biomedical Engineering PhD Student at Rutgers University, shared on LinkedIn:
”Last week, I had the amazing opportunity to attend the International Fibrinogen Research Society (IFRS) in Corfu, Greece (a small, close-knit meeting filled with experts who live and breathe coagulation research).
I presented my work, “Predicting Trauma Mortality with Machine Learning: The Role of Fibrin-Related Biomarkers,” and I’m so honored to have received the IFRS/ISFP Congress Travel Award.
My research looks at how machine learning can uncover hidden patterns in blood biomarkers to better understand what’s happening inside the body after traumatic injury.
Since blood flow is quite literally what keeps us alive, I believe decoding its signals through data-driven methods can help clinicians make more informed decisions and ultimately improve patient outcomes.
This work was done under the mentorship of Dr. Valerie Tutwiler, PhD and in collaboration with Dr. Ioannis Androulakis.
I also got to attend with Rebecca Risman, PhD and Andrew Gosselin, meet inspiring scientists, and learn so much about the evolving field of coagulation research.
Some of my favorite parts:
• Learning from global experts in fibrinogen biochemistry, hemostasis, and clot mechanics
• Hearing about innovative approaches and emerging tools shaping coagulation research
• Connecting with amazing researchers, mentors, and potential collaborators!
• And of course… enjoying the beauty of Greece.”
