Stroke Causes – Mnemonic: 7 C’s
1. C – Cocaine abuse
Vasospasm and hypertension leading to stroke.
2. C – Cancer/metastasis
Can cause hypercoagulability and embolic events.
3. C – Cardiac emboli
From atrial fibrillation, valve disease, endocarditis, etc.
4. C – CNS infection
Can cause vasculitis or emboli.
5. C – Congenital arterial lesion
Examples: AVMs, aneurysms.
6. C – Consanguinity
Associated with genetic conditions that increase stroke risk.
7. C – Hypercoagulation
Thrombophilias, pregnancy, OCPs, Factor V Leiden, etc.”
