Gianluca Franceschini – Prevention is the Future: Investing Today to Save Lives Tomorrow
Gianluca Franceschini, Director of the Integrated Center for Senology and the Breast Surgery Unit of the Gemelli Polyclinic, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“PREVENTION IS THE FUTURE: investing today to save lives tomorrow
On the second day of “Prevention is the Future”, organized by Motore Sanita, we reaffirmed an essential truth:

prevention is not a cost but the most effective investment for people’s health and for the sustainability of the National Health Service.
In Italy, we allocate only 5% of the National Health Fund (NSF) to prevention: an insufficient share to combat the increase in chronic diseases, oncological, infections and antimicrobial resistance.
This is why today we have put forward a clear and concrete proposal:
- Bring the prevention share to 7% of the NSF
- Stabilising resources on a multi-annual basis
- Defining national priorities by ensuring real equity between the Regions
Prevention is an integrated system and is expressed on three fundamental levels:
– Primary: reducing risk factors and promoting healthy lifestyles
– Secondary: early diagnosis and screening programs
– Tertiary: limiting the consequences of diseases and improving the quality of life
As Director of the Integrated Breast Center of the Gemelli Polyclinic, I see every day how much an early diagnosis can change the destiny of a person and his family.
Investing in prevention today means saving lives, reducing future costs and concretely building the future of Italian healthcare.
A heartfelt thanks to Motore Sanità for the organization of the event, on the initiative of the Parliamentary Intergroup on Risk Prevention and Reduction, for its constant commitment to promoting culture, vision and advanced policies in the health sector.”
