Leonardo Furtado Freitas Presents a Rare Hemorrhagic Hemangioblastoma Case
Leonardo Furtado Freitas, Clinical Associate Professor of Neuroradiology at Florida International University, shared on LinkedIn:
”A rare and challenging case!
Our latest Neuroimaging Highlight has just been published in the Canadian Journal of Neurological Sciences: “Ruptured Hemorrhagic Posterior Fossa Hemangioblastoma With Atypical Dissemination to Meckel’s Cave”.
This case follows a patient with an initially presumed extra-axial CPA meningioma that evolved into a hemorrhagic lesion—later confirmed as a hemangioblastoma—with atypical spread to Meckel’s cave.
The imaging tells the story: CT revealed a hyperdense hemorrhagic mass; MRI showed peripheral enhancement and characteristic serpentine flow voids, emphasizing the vascular nature of this rare tumor.
A powerful example of how recognizing key radiological features can shift both diagnosis and management.
