David McIntosh Shares: Egypt Achieves Self-Sufficiency in Plasma-Derived Medicines Thanks to Grifols

“Excellent News for Egyptian Patients AND a guiding light for other nations!!
I feel sure that fellow LinkedIners with a keen interest in blood, plasma and derived life-saving medicines will have found this news as exciting as Egyptian patients did:
Read the paper here.
While the fully appropriate treatment of all patients and currently undiagnosed sufferers, across all Low and Middle Income Countries, is still a long way off, progress in Egypt must surely give hope to millions way beyond that country’s borders.
The speed of progress has been immensely impressive, immediately starting to save lives after years of unsuccessful struggling against chronic national shortages of vital plasma-derived medicines.
The key ingredients?? –
a) The successful implementation of a positive public/private partnership
and
b) The introduction of plasmapheresis collection using the time-honoured method of Voluntary Reasonably Compensated Donation (VRCD)
Thus Egypt joins Germany, Austria, Hungary and Czechia in successfully adopting the American approach to plasma collection that has served those countries so well for so many years.
A hearty cheer for patient-centred, caring, common sense!!!
Hopefully, the backwoodsmen in Europe will finally sit up and take notice. Those who still advocate for uncompensated plasma donation and allow themselves to stay reliant on US imports to treat their patients properly must surely wake up to reality some time soon ….”
