Aymar Akilimali on An Unusual Case of Sinus Thrombosis Associated with Otitis Media
Aymar Akilimali, Founder and Head of Research at Medical Research Circle – MedReC, shared on LinkedIn:
”My final scientific publication to close out 2025
Here is our final scientific publication of 2025, published in Wiley In Research Clinical Case Reports, entitled: “Sigmoid and Transverse Sinus Thrombosis as a Complication of Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media in a Child: A Case Report and Review of Literature”
This work highlights a rare but potentially fatal complication of chronic suppurative otitis media in children: thrombosis of the cerebral venous sinuses (sigmoid and transverse).
Through this pediatric case study, we highlight the importance of:
- Early recognition of neurological signs
- Advanced imaging (CT, MRI, MRV)
- Rapid multidisciplinary management, combining surgical treatment, antibiotic therapy, and anticoagulation
This case serves as a reminder that common and often underestimated conditions can progress to severe intracranial complications if early diagnosis and treatment are not initiated, particularly in resource-limited settings.
I sincerely thank all the co-authors for this enriching international collaboration, as well as the clinical teams involved.
