José Antonio García Erce: The National Transplant Organization Published the 2024 Report of the Global Observatory on Donation and Transplantation
José Antonio García Erce, Director of the Donation Center, Navarre Health Service (Osasunbidea), posted on LinkedIn:
“THE ONT HAS JUST PUBLISHED THE 2024 REPORT OF THE GLOBAL OBSERVATORY ON DONATION AND TRANSPLANTATION (GODT): SPAIN ONCE AGAIN A WORLD LEADER IN DONATION AND TRANSPLANTATION
The report of the Global Observatory of Donation and Transplantation (GODT) is managed by the National Transplant Organization (ONT) as a Collaborating Center of the World Health Organization in the field of transplantation.
The report presents data on organ donation and transplantation activity at the global level, by WHO region and by country, for the year 2024. The information is presented by type of donor and according to demographic characteristics of donors and recipients. It also contains relevant information on waiting list data, accessibility (transplant centers and population covered), and transplant travel.
We must publicly thank and congratulate the members of the ONT team who dedicate a lot of time, effort and passion to this exercise of such relevance for the monitoring of global activity, the transparency of practices and international benchmarking.
Unfortunately, this transparency and agility in presenting useful data and indicators does not apply to the donation of blood and blood componentes transfusion, nor to the consumption of plasma-derived medicines.
Read the report here.
It is regrettable that the Ministry of Health recently decided to double the number of independent national authorities responsible for SoHO substances, the distribution made, and not to allow the success, transparency, effectiveness and global prestige achieved in organ, tissue and parent donation to be imitated. Let’s hope that in August 2027 everything will be successfully resolved.”
