Heghine Khachatryan on ITP’s Key Research Gaps: Biomarkers, Fatigue and Thrombosis Risk
Heghine Khachatryan, Editor-in-Chief of Hemostasis Today, Head of Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center at Yeolyan Hematology and Oncology Center, shared a post by ITP Support Association on LinkedIn:
“One important research priority in ITP is understanding disease heterogeneity and treatment response.
Which immunological and clinical biomarkers can predict progression to chronic or refractory ITP and guide personalized therapy (steroids, TPO-RAs, rituximab, fostamatinib)?
In addition, fatigue remains a major unmet need in ITP and often persists despite adequate platelet counts. Understanding its inflammatory and immune mechanisms would have a major impact on patient quality of life.
Finally, the balance between bleeding and thrombosis risk in ITP—especially in patients treated with TPO-receptor agonists and during pregnancy—requires further real-world and prospective studies.”
Quoting ITP Support Association’s post:
“Got an idea for ITP research?
We’ve funded studies on fatigue, pregnancy, MRI, bone marrow, and more. Now we want YOUR input!
What should researchers explore next in ITP?
Drop your ideas in the comments below You can also email your ideas for research to [email protected] and we will collate all the responses from the comments and emails and discuss with our medical advisory team.”
