Daniëlle Coenen on The Role of Platelets in Skin Wound Healing
Daniëlle Coenen, Postdoctoral Researcher at University of Kentucky College of Medicine, shared on LinkedIn:
”I am excited to share that my first first-author paper from my postdoc has been accepted for publication in Blood Journals Portfolio, Blood Advances and that the first edition is finally accessible online!
In this work, we show that platelet α-granule cargo packaging and endocytic trafficking are important for timely wound closure, structural repair, and coordinated cytokine signaling, underscoring platelets’ role as regulators of all wound healing phases.
Key Points are:
– Platelet α-granule cargo and endocytosis support physiological skin wound healing
– Platelet function in wound healing extends to the inflammation, proliferation, and tissue remodeling phases
This work really emphasizes that even though platelets might be small, their actions are big, reaching beyond the traditional perspectives.
I am deeply grateful for the help of my co-authors (Hammodah R. Alfar, and Shayan Mohammadmoradi,), and the valuable support of my mentor, Dr. Sidney (Wally) Whiteheart, and all other (former and current) lab members!”
