John Monczewski: A Stroke, A Wake‑Up Call, And a Whole Lot of Gratitude
John Monczewski, CFO, VP of Finance and Operations for BJU, Inc. and BJU Education Group, shared on LinkedIn:
”A Stroke. A Wake‑Up Call. And a Whole Lot of Gratitude.
On January 12, I had a stroke.
No warning. No buildup.
Just a sudden pause that reminded me how fragile—and valuable—life really is.
Thanks to exceptional medical care, I’m here, recovering and reflecting.
What this experience reinforced for me:
- Tomorrow is not guaranteed
- Priorities matter more than productivity
- People matter more than plans
What I’m deeply grateful for:
- Family and friends whose encouragement carried me through
- Incredible medical professionals who quite literally saved my life
- An outstanding team at work who stepped up seamlessly and covered for me without missing a beat—I couldn’t be more thankful or proud
- A renewed sense of perspective I won’t take for granted
Still recovering. Still learning. Still grateful.
If you’re reading this—don’t postpone what matters most.”
