Maxime Dely: Platelet Agitation Strengthens Quality and Confidence in Transfusion Medicine
Maxime Dely, Sales and Application Specialist in Therapeutic Apheresis and Cell Therapy, shared a post on LinkedIn:
”Platelet concentrate agitation: a technical detail that saves lives
In transfusion medicine, clinical performance begins long before administration. It starts with storage conditions.
Platelet concentrates are stored at 20–24°C under continuous agitation. This is not a logistical choice, but a physiological one. Platelets are living, metabolically active cells: they consume oxygen, produce CO₂, and generate metabolites.
Without agitation, gas exchange decreases, pH drops, metabolism is altered, and hemostatic function deteriorates. Ultimately, this affects cell viability and transfusion efficacy.
Gentle, continuous agitation optimizes oxygenation, limits CO₂ accumulation, and helps maintain biochemical parameters compatible with optimal platelet function.
This measure directly contributes to risk control, both infectious and functional, and therefore to patient safety.
In transfusion medicine, scientific rigor is never optional. Every controlled parameter strengthens quality, safety, and confidence in the transfusion process.
Because behind every platelet concentrate, there is a patient who matters.”

”All points of the process make up the final product, as in any production line….. details matter!!!”
