Filippo Mazzi: IVIG as an Alternative Therapy for Acute Chest Syndrome in Patients with Sickle Cell Disease
Filippo Mazzi, Medical Doctor at Integrated University Hospital of Verona, Italy, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, adding:
“Excited to share our latest publication in Haematologica.
What can we do when a life-saving treatment is not an option?
We report two challenging cases of acute chest syndrome in patients with sickle cell disease who could not receive blood transfusions for religious reasons. We explored the use of intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIG) as an alternative therapeutic approach, with encouraging clinical outcomes.
These cases highlight how innovative and flexible treatment strategies can help address complex clinical scenarios in sickle cell disease and drive innovation in patient care.
Grateful to all co-authors and collaborators for this work.”
