Robert Hamilton: The Reality of Stroke Care and Why 81.6% Should be a Wake-Up call
Robert Hamilton, Chief Executive Officer of NeuraSignal, shared on LinkedIn:
”The Reality of Stroke Care: Why 81.6% Should be a Wake-Up call
Even after years of looking at stroke care from both an academic and professional lens, these numbers are eye-opening.
We often talk about how Endovascular Thrombectomy (EVT) and Intravenous Thrombolysis (IVT) have ‘changed the world.’ And they have.
They are nothing short of miraculous for the patients who receive them, especially, EVT with a NNT of 2. But this data is a sobering reminder of the work that remains.
The Challenge ahead
While we rightfully celebrate the breakthroughs that have redefined the field, we cannot ignore the 81.6% of patients who are left with medical management alone.
- We stand on the shoulders of giants: The pioneers of EVT and IVT paved the way.
- The mission is far from complete: Access, timing, and technology must evolve to reach the silent majority.
- Innovation is a responsibility: We have a collective duty to ensure ‘world-class care’ isn’t a privilege for the few, but a standard for all.
What’s Next?
I’m more motivated than ever to push the boundaries of what’s possible.
I’ll be at LSI next week and am looking forward to discussing how we are tackling these gaps at NeuraSignal.
If you’re attending, let’s connect. It’s time to discuss what’s next for the field.”
