Maxime Dely: Why I Took My Toddler to a Blood Donation Session
Maxime Dely, Sales and Application Specialist in Therapeutic Apheresis and Cell Therapy, shared a post on LinkedIn:
”I took my 3-year-old son to wath a donation center, Here’s why.
A few months ago, I brought my little boy to attend a blood donation session.
With simple words, adapted to his age, he understood the essentials: giving means taking care of people in need.
Because behind every blood bag, every plasma donation, every platelet concentrate… there is a medical reality that many people overlook:
- Cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy
- People suffering from coagulation disorders
- Road accident victims in critical emergencies
- Newborns in neonatal intensive care
These patients would have no medical alternative without blood products. None whatsoever.
And yet, how many of us grew up never hearing about it?
Blood, plasma and platelet donation — it’s not an ethical debate. It’s not a burden. It’s a value to be passed on, embedded in our culture, made as natural as a reflex.
This 45-minute gesture needs to become part of who we are. Collectively.
So let’s start early. Talk about it with our children, our loved ones, our collegues.
I suppose that if a three-year-old child is able to understand, billions of people can do the same.
Because without us, millions of patients, worldwide, would be left without any medical solution.”
