Angelo Cascio Rizzo: CTA-Based Plaque RADS Improves Risk Stratification in ESUS
Angelo Cascio Rizzo, Vascular Neurologist at Niguarda Ca’ Granda Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, adding:
“CTA-based Plaque RADS helps stratify non-stenotic carotid plaques in ESUS. New paper in Green Journal
Modified CTA-based Plaque RADS: practical, reproducible, everyday-applicable (k = 0.83)
High-risk Plaque RADS 3-4 in 21% of ESUS patients and strongly linked to stroke laterality (aOR 2.65)
ESUS with ipsilateral high-risk Plaque RADS showed:
- fewer competing cardioembolic sources (atrial cardiopathy, PFO, Afib)
- ~3-fold higher risk of ipsilateral stroke recurrence
Time for targeted prevention”
