José Antonio García Erce: Growing Immunoglobulin Use Challenges of Supply and Sustainability
José Antonio García Erce, Director of the Donation Center, Navarre Health Service (Osasunbidea), shared a post on LinkedIn:
”Increasing consumption of immunoglobulins.
To infinity and beyond?
Although it has been possible to increase in recent years by 40% the shipment of plasma to Grifols for the industrial fractionation of hemoderivados, with a similar growth in production, thanks, among other measures, to the increase of more than 1000% of aféresis in 10 years, and to almost double the plasmaféresis every two years…. It is impossible to be self-sufficient!
With the current model, without a change in the paradigm, if the growth of the consumo is much higher than the supply, coming from donantes unpaid and uncompensated volunteers.
The graphs show the growth of patients treated with inmunoglobulinas and of the units consumed in the public centers of the Autonomous Community of Navarre.
Where is the limit?”
