Sanjoy Deb: Bridging the Gap in Post-Stroke Nutrition Support for Survivors and Carers

Sanjoy Deb, Associate Professor in Exercise and Nutritional Science at Anglia Ruskin University, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in Frontiers, adding:

”There is a significant gap in food and nutrition support for post-stroke care for survivors and carers.

Our new paper, published in Frontiers in Stroke, expertly led by Alex Lang as part of his PhD, identified four key themes from interviews with an ethnically diverse group of stroke survivors and carers.

They described feeling overlooked when it came to the complexity of eating and drinking after stroke, a real need for personalised and culturally sensitive nutrition support, and a lack of consistent input after leaving the hospital.

There was also a lack of reliable nutrition information to support recovery, leaving them feeling unprepared when they were at home.

The paper offers six practical recommendations to improve nutritional care across the stroke pathway.

Thank you to every stroke survivor and carer who gave their time to take part.

We hope their voices can help shape post-stroke nutrition support.

And an accessible blog version thanks to Different Strokes Charity – Support for Working Age Stroke Survivors UK for publishing”
